While updating windows, it is possible to receive the 0×80070002 Error. This problem occurs when some files in the update are missing, even though the update is downloaded and extracted successfully. This error then causes old files to be kept and the error to persist. The following error message may be displayed when you start your Windows XP computer:
A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error code: 0×80070002.

Error code 0×80070002 is related to Logonui.exe Error.

Cause of the error:
This error message is usually displayed when the following information is changed on the PC:

  • The default security provider in Windows XP
  • The System drive letter.

Note: These problems may be caused by any software that has the capability to change the default security provider settings in Windows XP.

How to Fix the Error 0×80070002
There are many ways to rectify error 0×80070002. The first thing you can do is stopping the automatic update services. For this, go to Start and then to Run and type services.msc. Once the page opens, go to Automatic update services and click stop.

The next step you have to do is to delete the contents in the DataStore folder. This can also be done in an easy way. Go to Start and then take the Run option and type “cmd” to start the DOS command panel. Then type “cd %windir%” and click enter, and type “ren SoftwareDistribution SoftDisTemp” again and click enter. When you click this, you will be taken to the Datastore folder from where you can delete the contents. Now your you have changed your previous SoftwareDistribution to SoftDis Temp, and deleted its history update record.

If you come across error 0×80070002, you have to reset the Windows XP default security provider. In order to do this, you have to remove the specific entries from the registry. For removing the entries, you should have to first start the system in the safe mode. After this, go to Start and then to Run. Type “regedit” and enter. In the registry, you should have to delete the keys: “HKEY_USERS|.DEFAULT|Software|Microsoft|Cryptograp hy|Provider” and “HKEY_USERS|S-1-5-20|Software|Microsoft|Cryptograp hy|Providers”. Once you complete this, you have to restart the system.

You should have to clean the registry quite often for preventing errors like error 0×80070002 from happening. Cleaning the registry is easy. If you know how to do it manually, then you can do it.     I just bought the game spore for the pc. My computer ran on windows 7 so i had to try it on my laptop because spore only runs on vista or xp. (My laptop has vista) When i put the game in the cd drive i was expecting the screen that says “would you like to play this game?” but it never came up. so i went to my games, off the start menu and searched spore, found it, clicked on it and it said “CANNOT BE FOUND’ computer Error 0×80070002. Can you help me?

    I am getting an advpack.dll error when i try to update my windows media player, what should i do? I have already ran scans and purchased software to help the problem, i have replaced the .dll, and i have restored my computer to as far back as it would let me. i am running windows xp if this helps at all. nothing has fixed the problem so far.

    When I start my pc there is this thing that said “Wpc11cfg: WPC11CFG.exe-system error” and “The program can’t start because W32N50.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem”. Please help me! Where can I find the .exe file in my pc?? I know I uninstall a program before this coz I thought it is not important.. Please help!

    I downloaded Kernel32.dll which was already on my computer but it won’t read it. i cannot connect to the internet at all and some others say it is because of not having this file. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.My computer won’t recognize Kernel32.dll (it is there) and i cannot connect to the internet at all.?
